The 2008 Kiteboarding 4 Cancer is officially scheduled for Saturday, August 9 in Hood River, Oregon, with a backup day for wind set for Sunday, August 10. This year brings more prizes, more silent auction items, and a new event as part of the day: The World's 1st Kiteboarding Long Jump! Come visit the beautiful Columbia River Gorge during the best season for kiteboarding! August is the best month for warm wind, warm water, and beautiful scenery.
The John Wayne Cancer Foundation is partnering with KB4C this year as our primary charity sponsor, providing fundraising athletes with JWCF Team Duke packets (JWCF tee shirt, baseball cap, and sunscreen) and support to KB4C. We are thrilled to have JWCF involved! Last year, JWCF was one of our beneficiary organizations. Their enthusiasm for the health and energy contributions of the kiteboarding community to give to the cause of cancer was so powerful that we’re doing it again with JWCF!

We are thrilled to have some new events and partners involved in this year's Kiteboarding 4 Cancer. Here's what's on the schedule. Be sure to mark your calenders!
Friday Night Derby Fuel Feast & Athlete Registration: For all KB4C athletes, their friends and families
FREE for registered athletes and $8 for friends and family members, this grand buffet will be sure to fuel derby athletes for the 6-hour race! All proceeds go to KB4C's Kite for Kids Day. Time, location, and menu TBA
World's First Kiteboarding Long Jump: For all participants in the Kite Derby
Announcer and event coordinator, Neil Hutchinson, is devising this pioneering event to be like no other. Using "banana" buoy markers, spread out downwind in front of the event site, participating kiteboarders will jump as far as they can to clear the downwind buoy. As the buoy is cleared, it is moved progressively downwind, increasing the jump gap. Remember the Limbo?
Children's Healing Art Project Tent: For all participants, spectators, and kids at KB4C!
Children's Healing Art Project, CHAP, brings the healing power of art to children in crisis, and their families, through a team of working artists into Portland's children's hospitals. CHAP's painters, sculptors, dancers and writers have developed site-specific programs tailored to the needs and abilities of each facility and their patients. CHAP is bringing their studio to KB4C for all to experience the power of art. Select children's art will be auctioned off at the KB4C Live Auction.
What Else?
Kite Derby: We added an upwind and downwind buoy and moved the course slightly for better wind and more competition, which means...more action!
KB4C Travel Raffle: We're giving away a $1000 Travel Voucher to anywhere in the world! Courtesy of Hazel Phillips Travel in The Dalles, Oregon. Raffle tickets can be purchased the day of the event.
You must be present to win!!
Celilo Cancer Center Silent Auction: This year all proceeds from the silent auction will go to benefit this local and world-class alternative cancer treatment center here in The Dalles.
